Refrigerator Not Turning On
If the fridge is completely dead, check the outlet and breaker first. If there’s power and it still won’t run, the control board, start relay or compressor is the usual cause.
Common causes
- No power at the outlet. A tripped breaker or a GFCI outlet that tripped.
- Showroom or demo mode. Lights on, fridge not cooling. Some models show OF OF or a demo message.
- Control board. The main board or the user display fails.
- Start relay or compressor. Lights on, but you only hear a click.
Checks you can do safely
Turn off power (and water or gas where it applies) before you reach inside any appliance.
- Plug a lamp into the same outlet.
- Reset the breaker and any GFCI outlet nearby, including in the garage.
- Check the manual for how to leave demo mode.
- Unplug the fridge for a few minutes, then plug it back in.
