Washer Leaking Water
Find out when it leaks. During fill points to hoses or the inlet valve. During drain points to the pump or drain hose. Front-loaders also leak from a torn door boot.
Common causes
- Inlet hoses. Loose, cracked or bulging at the back.
- Door boot. The rubber seal on a front-loader tears or gets something caught in it.
- Drain pump or hose. A cracked pump housing or a loose clamp.
- Too much soap. Suds overflow, especially with non-HE detergent in an HE washer.
- Tub seal. A worn seal under the tub, often with a bearing noise.
Checks you can do safely
Turn off power (and water or gas where it applies) before you reach inside any appliance.
- Turn off the water and look at both hoses at the back.
- Wipe the floor dry and run a short cycle. Watch when the water shows up.
- Look around the door boot for tears or a sock caught in it.
- Use HE detergent and the right amount.
